Meeting of the Industrial Committee

On November 14, 2023, a meeting of the Industrial Committee (IC) of the School of Materials Science and Green Technologies took place at the JSC "Kazakhstan-British Technical University" (KBTU). The meeting was attended by the Dean of the School, Professor, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences N.B. Beisenkhanov, partners from LLP "TechnoGroupService" J.B. Mominbaev and K.G. Abenov, as well as invited members of the IC.

The School of Materials Science and Green Technologies (SMGT) was established at KBTU based on the Laboratory of Alternative Energy and Nanotechnologies and the Laboratory of Advanced Materials and Technologies. Nanotechnologies cover an interdisciplinary area at the intersection of fundamental and applied directions in science and technology. This field has become relevant as it allows the formation of material structures at the nanoscale and modification of the properties of nanomaterials, thereby contributing to their integration into various industries and sciences. Photovoltaics is one of the renewable energy directions developed using nanotechnologies.

During the meeting, a presentation on "Human Resources Provision in the Power Industry" was delivered by the Expert on Project Development and Digital Transformation at JSC "COREM," Dr. PhD A.A. Saukhimov. The presenter extensively covered topics such as workforce shortages in the industry, professional standards, job positions, and the digital power platform developed by JSC "COREM." The material generated significant interest as issues related to industrial internship, choosing a thesis topic, and the subsequent employment of SMGT graduates are crucial for the Industrial Committee.

Summing up the meeting, the Chairman of the Industrial Committee of SMGT, J.B. Mominbaev, emphasized the need to conduct a survey of SMGT students to increase the employment rate of graduates to 94%, aligning with the current best result of the School of Energy and Oil and Gas Industry of JSC "KBTU."

Commissioning of a new solar power station

In the Konyrat microdistrict of the city of Balkhash in the Karaganda region, a solar power station with a capacity of 4.77 MW has been put into operation. The investment project was implemented by the copper company "Kounrad." The opening ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Balkhash, Sapar Sataev, the head of the Department of Ecology for the Karaganda region, Darhan Iszhanov, and the Executive Director of the company "Central Asia Metals PLC," Nigel Robinson.

The solar station was built in eight months. Over an area of 10 hectares, 8,850 panels were installed, more than 6 kilometers of wells were drilled, 177 sets of metal structures were installed with a total weight of over 200 tons, and 64 kilometers of cable and conductor products were laid. According to estimates, the station will cover almost 16-18% of the enterprise's electricity needs.

One of the project initiators was also TechnoGroupService LLP, which provided the necessary technical and economic calculations and ensured the planned implementation of the project. According to the Technical Director of TechnoGroupService LLP, K.G. Abenov, the project faced challenges in implementation due to rocky terrain complicating land works. However, thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Kounrad Copper Company, this circumstance did not hinder the planned commissioning of the facility.

Nigel Robinson was granted the right to conduct a trial launch of the station. Darhan Iszhanov, the head of the Department of Ecology, noted that with the new solar power station in Balkhash, harmful emissions into the atmosphere will be reduced.

GOLDEN LETTER

On October 31, 2023, in celebration of the Republic of Kazakhstan Independence Day, the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Kyrgyz Republic organized an official reception. The event commenced with the national anthems of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

During this occasion, Mr. Zhomart Mominbayev, a partner at TechnoGroupService LLP, was honored with a letter of gratitude from the Minister of Foreign Affairs - Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Murat Nurtileu, for his contribution to strengthening bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic.

The construction project of a 50 MW solar power plant "Kun Bulagy," with subsequent expansion to 300 MW, is being implemented by TechnoGroupService LLP in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic represented by Taza Energy LLC. The pre-investment phase of the project is currently concluding, and construction will commence after passing state expertise.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Kyrgyz Republic, Rapil Zhoshybayev, emphasized the enduring ties of friendship and good neighborliness demonstrated by Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan throughout years of independent development. This is affirmed by the Treaty of Eternal Friendship (1997) and the Treaty of Allied Relations (2003). Ambassador Zhoshybayev praised the established trustful relations and the dynamic course of political dialogue maintained at all levels. The ongoing efforts to modernize and reconstruct border checkpoints, as well as the construction of an Industrial Trade and Logistics Complex at the Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan border, were acknowledged. These initiatives are expected to significantly increase cargo transportation volume and expand trade between the two countries.

First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, Adylbek Kasymaliev, highlighted the high level of bilateral relations and close support in all areas of the two states' activities.

Memorandum of Cooperation in the Renewable Energy Sector

On October 26 of this year, Akim of the Ulytau region Berik Abdigaliuli, Partner of Technogruppservice LLP Zhomart Mominbayev and Head of Sinohydro Engineering Bureau Machinery and Equipment Co. Ltd. (a subsidiary of Power China) Mr. Guo Pingzhong signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on the development of two major projects in the field of renewable energy.

The first project is the construction of a 1 GW wind farm in the Zhanaarkinsky district of the Ulytau region. For this purpose, the local authorities have allocated a plot of land with an area of 20,000 hectares, on which the measurement of wind energy potential will begin in the near future. Electricity production by this facility is planned in the amount of 3.4 billion US dollars.kWh per year, the amount of attracted investments will be up to 1 billion.US dollars.

The second project is aimed at organizing the production of load-bearing metal elements of wind turbine towers. The plant's capacity will be 100 towers per year or up to 800 MW of wind farm capacity. A 20-hectare plot of land has already been allocated for the plant in the Zhezkazgan industrial zone, where engineering and geological surveys will also begin in the near future. The amount of attracted investments will be up to 25 million US dollars. The ceremony of laying the capsule of the future plant was held with the participation of the Leadership of the Ulytau region.

In the first nine months of this year, the volume of electricity generated by renewable energy facilities in the total volume of electric energy production amounted to 4.9 billion.kWh, which corresponds to 5.97%.  The increase in electricity generation by renewable energy facilities for 9 months of 2023 compared to 9 months of 2022 is 25%.
